How barcode scanning works on AADOPS

A barcode scanner connected to your device acts as a keyboard β€” when you scan a barcode, it types the barcode number into whatever field is active on screen. On the AADOPS POS, when the product search field is active and you scan a barcode, AADOPS looks up the product and adds it to the sale immediately.

Supported scanner types

AADOPS works with any standard USB or Bluetooth barcode scanner that operates in HID (Human Interface Device) mode β€” which is the default mode for almost all consumer and commercial scanners. Common compatible models include Honeywell, Zebra, and most generic scanners sold for retail use.

Setting up a USB barcode scanner

  1. Plug the scanner into your computer's USB port
  2. No driver installation is needed for most scanners β€” they are detected automatically
  3. Open the AADOPS POS
  4. Scan any product barcode
  5. If the product has a barcode assigned in AADOPS, it is added to the sale immediately

There is no configuration required in AADOPS for USB scanners β€” plug in and scan.

Setting up a Bluetooth barcode scanner

  1. Put the scanner in pairing mode (refer to your scanner manual)
  2. Pair it with your device via Bluetooth settings
  3. Once paired, it works exactly like the USB scanner on the POS

Before scanning, ensure products have barcodes

Scanning only works for products that have a barcode assigned in AADOPS. If a product does not have a barcode, the scanner finds nothing. See the article on barcode generation and printing to assign barcodes to your products.

Tip: Test your scanner on at least five different products before using it for a full trading day. Confirm that each scan correctly identifies the product and adds the right variant. A scanner that works on 90% of your products but fails on the other 10% is slower than not using one at all.
